The state's Board of Education has agreed to adopt the Common Core State Standards Initiative, a new set of standards that define what South Carolina students will be required to learn at every grade level in reading and math.

The 9-4 vote came in yesterday, making South Carolina the 25th state in the country to adopt the standards. However, changes in the classroom won't go into effect until the 2013-14 school year.

The Post and Courier has the post about the Board of Education's vote and what students and families should expect from the new Common Core State Standards Initiative.
