Update April 28: The State has followed up with a more thorough reporting about the crash, notably adding a human touch to the story and noting that a state trooper was attempting to pull over the rider shortly before the crash.

The State reports that a motorcyclist and dog are dead after the fast moving motorcycle rear-ended a station wagon, catapulting the rider through the rear window, killing the dog.

The accident happened on I-26 on the north side of Columbia.
