A recently released report from the Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children reveals that in the last year, nearly half of South Carolina children under the age of 18 lived in some officially measured degree of poverty.

The Post and Courier has the numbers on poverty, qualification for Medicaid benefits, number of children who receive a subsidized lunch and the number of children receiving special education services in 2010.

While the report clearly highlights problems, no solutions have yet been proposed.
