The other September 11 tragedy: crash of Charlotte flight 212

Today of course marks the eighth year since the Twin Tower went down in New York City and a plane hurdled into the Pentagon in Washington D.C., but some are also remember this day for the loss of life it brought to 38 Charlestonians.

On this day in 1974, Eastern Airlines Flight 212 crashed 2 miles from the Charlotte runway killing 72 of the 82 people on board. A good number of prominent figures in the Charleston community were lost in the crash.
