New local firefighter union president sets sights on safety

Engineer Bill Haigler will assume the position of firefighter union president and plans work closely with fire chief to prevent disasters like the Sofa Superstore tragedy.

Since the catastrophe of the furniture franchise two summers ago Charleston's firefighter's union has doubled in size and awareness, with which Haigler plans to improve fire safety and protection. The Post and Courier quotes him:
I don't want to sit on the sidelines I want to have a voice and be a voice for others.

By empowering the firefighters and spreading awareness Haigler will hopefully keep Charleston safe from catastrophe.

Thanks to the Post and Courier for tipping us off.

Update 9 p.m.: ABC News 4 has a video interview with Haigler.
