New language-immersion charter school vying for state approval

There may soon be a new charter school in the Lowcountry.

As one of only 13 schools statewide vying for approval, the proposed Southeastern Elementary Institute of Global Studies, a language-immersion and technology-focused school, could be up and running by the 2001-12 school year.

The school would be opened to Charleston County pre-kindergarten through fourth-grade students where they would learn 50 - 90 percent of their lessons in either Spanish or Chinese.

Although the charter is still pending approval, The Post and Courier has a solid write-up on it.
