The Charleston area will see signs of a heightened military presence next week as Joint Base Charleston will be joining in the operation Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield 2012 from March 19 to 24.

The exercise aims to enhance Security Forces' training and readiness while allowing units the opportunity to practice security increases in response to possible future threats.

Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield is a U.S. Navy exercise which focuses on "defensive" measures to reduce the risk to personnel and property due to terrorist acts. Within this program is a system called Force Protection Conditions.

Measures have been taken to minimize disruption to normal base operations during the upcoming exercise, but there may be times when the exercise causes increased traffic around the installation or delays in base access. Area residents may also see increased security activity associated with the exercise.
