Over the weekend, Horry County Fire and Rescue will host firefighters from all over the east coast and Alabama for a three-day training camp in preparation for the Combat Challenge competitions.

The training will include working in full gear and overcoming obstacles such as climbing up a tower and dragging a life-size dummy.  You can see the full press release on the WBTW site here.  You can also check out the full schedule of Combat Challenges here.  The closest competition is scheduled for May 18 and 19, 2012 in North Charleston at the Tanger Outlet Center and American LaFrance Museum.

Last year, the World Challenge XX was held right here in Myrtle Beach.  This year's international competition is tentatively scheduled for November 12-17, 2012, but there is no word on the location.

Our local firefighters have been quite successful in these challenges.  Have a look at some past write-ups we've done, covering competitive and community events here, here, and here.

You always make us proud and thank you for serving our community!

Here is a video from last year's World Challenge XX.
