City of Charleston proposing brand new batch of skateboarding rules

The City of Charleston is once again tinkering with ideas on how to allow skateboarders to coexist with other forms of transportation on our city streets.

First there was the proposed skateboarding ban, next came the proposed skateboarding "corridors." Now, City Councilman Mike Seekings and the city’s skateboard review committee have drafted up a new plan that they feel would allow skateboards to safely coexist (on most) city streets.

The new set of skateboarding rules and regulations would free up streets around the College of Charleston neighborhoods where a majority of skateboarding takes place. However, skating on major thoroughfares like King, Market, Spring, Meeting and East Bay streets, would still be prohibited for safety reasons.

For more on the proposal, we'll point you to this article in The Post and Courier.
