Voted into the position in 2008, Berkeley County school's superintendent Dr. Anthony Parker announced on Tuesday that he'll be retiring at the end of the school year.

Parker penned an open letter to parents, employees, students and community partners regarding his decision, you can read it here.

There has not been an official announcement on when the search for a replacement will begin.
