Update August 19: As expected the plan was voted down when it reached the full council. The Post and Courier has a brief on the vote; read it here.

First reporting August 14: Charleston County's Finance Committee didn't like what came out of a $250,000 study of a proposed new road to better isolate traffic going through Johns Island to Kiawah and Seabrook islands (map) and voted against finding $60 million to build the dozen-mile long proposed Sea Islands Greenway.

The Post and Courier has a nice account of the rejection of the plan at the meeting and the proposed $5 million in safety improvements to existing roads; read that here.

The paper also has a follow up that talks about how supporters of the plan don't seem to have a clear next move in mind.
