Race for the 7th: Democrats debate, kickoff primary season

The current roster of candidates are raising money for their campaigns and preparing for a battle that will surely overwhelm the senses of every registered voter in the Pee Dee area.

First order of business is being top dog of their respective parties. Appearing as a front-runner is just a common sense way to earn more campaign contributions. With several candidates putting together dollar amounts in the 7-figure range, this is certainly the priority this early in the race. The best way to establish the pecking order is with debates and the Democratic candidates participated in a debate this past weekend in Myrtle Beach. It was well covered by several local outlets but we really like that WPDE published a transcription of the questions and candidates answers and The Sun News got post-debate impressions from voters and candidates. The event was hosted by the Horry County Democratic Party and the Myrtle Beach NAACP.

In related SC 7th news, the ousting of former Lt. Governor Ken Ard has created ripple effects that has affected Jay Jordan's campaign. The Florence Morning News has more here.
