McConnell calls for management performance audit of Patriots Point

Citing the fact that Patriots Point "has drifted into a state of inertia and has become overcome by its liabilities," Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell has requested that the Legislative Audit Council perform a management performance audit of the Mount Pleasant attraction.

The purpose of the Legislative Audit Council's oversight role is to provide information which will assist the General Assembly and the public in determining whether state agencies are efficiently, effectively, and lawfully managing public resources, and whether agency programs are meeting their intended objectives.

After borrowing $9 million to conduct repairs to the aging warship USS Laffey, McConnell wants to be sure the state-owned attraction won't require a public bailout.

The Post and Courier has the brief.
