Carolina Forest talks redistricting and explores incorporation (update: WMBF discussion)

Horry County Council members Marion Foxworth, Brent Schultz, and Carl Schwartzkopf explain the redistricting process to Carolina Forest residents.

Update July 29th: Just a heads up that WMBF will be discussing this topic live today at 12pm on their News This Week program.

They also kicked off a lively discussion on Facebook with several citizen comments.


Update July 22nd: Chuck Rhome, Vice President of the Carolina Forest Civic Association, updated the membership this week on the progress of exploring funding options.

Rhome said the blue ribbon committee that has been tasked with researching the process of incorporation. Included in this process was meeting with a consultant from the Municipal Association of South Carolina that proved very enlightening. The board has determined that a feasibility study to determine if a tax base would support a municipality. The Civic Association is adamant that they will not take a position on the issue at this time.

First Report: As a part of the Horry County redistricting plan, Carolina Forest stands to receive more representation at all levels of government.

As an active member, I attended the Carolina Forest Civic Association meeting last night. In addition to an in-depth redistricting presentation, there was an open discussion about incorporating the Carolina Forest area.
