A bill banning school-hour sales of high-fat, high-sugar foods and beverages - whether in the cafeteria, canteen or hallways - received tentative approval yesterday.

The legislation is an attempt aimed at lowering the rates of childhood obesity, an important issues in South Carolina where 1 in 3 teens are overweight or obese.

The bill is already attracting opposition from all sides, but who can argue with healthier children who may retain better eating habits for a lifetime?

The State has the story.
