Rape, incest abortions get funding eliminated in S.C. House budget

On Wednesday evening, South Carolina legislators voted 57-54 to deny abortions in the state's health insurance plan in cases of rape or incest or when they're needed to protect a mother's health.

Democrats and Republicans were split down the middle on the matter. Democrats believe that the ruling is a misguided attempt to do what some believe is right, to put it lightly. Republicans who cast their vote are promoting the protection of life and as Republican Rep. Wendy Nanney of Greenville said:

Women do not have a right to take a life. It's a precious gift. Maybe we don't like how it was created and the circumstances in which it was created."
