For the first time in quite a while, the South Carolina Employment Security Commission's monthly report said there was a month-to-month drop.

In January the state hit a record high of 12.6% -- today that rate is 12.2%. Not exactly great news, but it's a great change. In all 15,900 jobs were added with every sector but manufacturing (-200) showing growth. 

“We are encouraged by the improvement we have seen over the past couple of months; however, the state’s economy remains fragile. We have a ways to go before we can feel confident that unemployment is on a path to sustained recovery” said Samuel R. Foster, Interim Executive Director of the South Carolina Employment Security Commission.

Charleston County dipped below 10% to hit 9.4% and have the fourth best rate in the state. Berkeley charted 10.5% and Dorchester 9.8%.
