The rapid erosion of sand from Folly Beach has already led to the closure of the county park and now continues to threaten much of the rest of the beach on the barrier island.

Local officials are keeping up the push for funding at the federal level, looking to increase the $400,000 they've received to plan sand renourishment efforts into some $15 million to actually put more sand on the shoreline.

The island last saw major renourishment back in 2006, with less than a decade having passed and sea level rise likely to start hitting hard in the coming decade, look for more and more news on Folly Beach's battle, and other area beaches in general.
