The lowdown on if your cell phone will work when a hurricane lands

When the high wind and watery weather of a hurricane slams into home, you'll likely want to know whether or not your cell phone will work. 

The long and short of it is that you won't know until you reach to use it and there are far from any guarantees it will work — especially if you've forgotten to charge your phone.

But we're guessing you might like a more detailed look at the upgrades in robustness that cellphone companies have been making ever since the long days after Katrina slammed into New Orleans and cell phone towers failed disastrously.

(Especially seeing as the hurricane season's potency rating was just upgraded.)
