Rescuers search the waters of Folly River for missing elderly man (update: body found)

Update March 4:

After being reported missing over a month ago, the body of Rashid Mir, a boater that had disappeared from the Folly Beach Sunset Cay Marina, is believe to to have been found.

The coroner's office said it was still waiting on reports to return from the lab to determine the cause of death in the case.

Update January 28:

The Post and Courier has uncovered more information on Rashid Mir, the 74-year-old Pakistani man who was last seen on a small boat docked at a Folly Beach's Sunset Cay Marina.

According to Mir's nephew, he was a decorated pilot in Pakistan's air force who went on to become a successful commercial airline pilot with a career spanning three decades.

After countless hours of searching the Folly River and surrounding areas, authorities are now treating Mir's mysterious disappearance as a missing-persons case.

First reporting:

An all out search was conducted this afternoon for an elderly man reported missing near the Folly Beach marina.

The man had been staying on a 30-foot sloop moored at Sunset Cay Marina, but has not been seen since late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
