Beavers are becoming quite the problem in Charleston and Berkeley counties.

The little critters have been known to take up residence in drainage pipes throughout the state system. Their dams clog up the drains, which leave stagnant water sitting for an unnatural amount of time on residences, on roadsides, and in any area the rodents decided to set up shop.

Unbeknownst to me, beavers also breed like rabbits.

The Post and Courier reports that to deal with the beaver issue, the Department of Transportation awarded a $55,000 contract to the state Department of Natural Resources to trap and relocate beavers that affect highway drainage in Berkeley and Charleston counties.
