Update July 28:

The SkyWheel is coming to the coast.

Myrtle Beach city council gave the final approval yesterday to ordinances allowing the 187-foot ferris wheel to be built. Construction is estimated to be complete be May of 2011.

First reporting:

Although it isn't coming to Charleston, the South Carolina coast may be gaining one of the biggest attractions this side of the Mississippi.

St. Louis-based Pacific Development wants to build a 175-foot-tall SkyWheel Ferris wheel, just likeĀ the one on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, on Myrtle Beach's oceanfront just north of Plyler Park.
