The Medical University of South Carolina will buy a $30,000 machine this month that will be used to help research a cure for Neuroblastoma, a type of cancerous tumor usually victimizing young children.

The Synergy H1 Hybrid Reader scrutinizes gene sequences in tumor samples and allows lab researchers to test new drugs on specific areas.

The money to buy the machine was raised by Chase After a Cure, a South Carolina based nonprofit organization whose mission revolves around the advancement of Neuroblastoma. Chase After a Cure is set to donate $125,000 to MUSC this month, and raised the funding for the Reader during its fifth annual gala earlier in February.
