Suspect in Charleston police officer shooting had been twice arrested
Charleston Police Officer Cory Goldstein was shot during a West Ashley traffic stop on Saturday night, and officials are upset that the suspect, Mark L. Blake Jr., had previously been arrested twice and twice released on bail — judicial system insiders are pointing the blame to inefficient records systems.
Courts should open up this data. Drop all the arrests and bails offered in a JSON API and you'll have citizen group tools to stop this stuff faster than the government can make a bloated solution.
You'd think small-gov South Carolina would be up in arms that it isn't letting its citizens do this for themselves.
