North Charleston neighborhood installing crime-watch cameras (update: installed)
Image by Ken Hawkins/TheDigitel Surveillance cameras aren't new to the Charleston area -- this is one at the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park.
Update July 23: The camera's are up and Live 5 News has a nice video report from up in the tree with a camera; watch it here.

First reporting: In response to a number of violent crimes, the Ashley Shores community in North Charleston is working with the S.C. based Project Unity and unveiling a new camera system designed to deter would-be criminals.
