Man escapes from Columbia prison

27-year-old Barry Scott Martin Jr. escaped about 3 p.m. Monday from Manning Correctional Institution in Columbia. Authorities aren't sure how he did it or if he had help, but they realized he was missing during a routine inmate count.

From Live 5 News:

Investigators say Martin started serving a 10-year sentence in January for breaking into a motor vehicle.

Martin is 5'10" tall, weighs about 150 pounds, and has brown eyes and brown hair. He has scars on both arms and multiple tattoos on his arms, legs, neck, chest, stomach and back.

Gelinas says Martin now faces the charge of felony escape, which carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years.

You can call the fugitive apprehension unit at 1-877-349-2130 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. if you have information. After 5 p.m., you should call your local law enforcement. Also, there's a reward of up to $500 for information leading to Martin's capture.
