In child porn charges, Charleston composer and former instructor requests trial by judge

Fernando Rivas.

Update: Rivas has plead guilty.

Known for his contributions to Playhouse Disney's Handy Manny, composition of Nickelodeon promotional spots, work with Sesame Street, and time as a part time jazz instructor at the Porter Gaud School, the reputation of Charleston resident Fernando Rivas fell apart after November 2011 allegations of child porn possession and production.

On Thursday, Rivas waved a jury trial and instead asked that a judge weigh the case.

A trial is expected in September.

Charges on Rivas purportedly center on him having allegedly photographed a naked four-year-old girl in handcuffs.
