A sneak peek inside CityMac, opening June 16th at Market Common

CityMac has less than 24 hours to go until their scheduled grand opening on Saturday, June 16th at 10:00 a.m. the newest retail spot and perhaps the most eagerly awaited (in local Apple fanboys' minds). Employees are stocking shelves, unpacking boxes, and finishing up training.

I walked into CityMac and could see they had a lot of work ahead of them in the next 18 or so hours. Some of the walls had product up (a lot of which I was eyeing) but none of those shiny aluminum shells of iMacs and MacBooks were on display. There was a good reason for that. CityMac manager Jim Strater was busy in the back unpacking boxes, organizing and tracking down product numbers.

287 Located on Deville St. beside Victoria's SecretIt's been a busy few weeks for Strater, who took some time out to talk with me about the second CityMac, the first being in Asheville, NC. "It's like College, we'll be pulling an all-nighter to get it done," Strater says regarding the readiness of the shop; he went on to joke that he'll catch up sleep in the next three weeks. But, it's worth it he assured and they, along with Market Common are very excited to be in town.

Picking Myrtle Beach as thier second store location was a bit of fluke; their real estate agent has property in the area and mention that Myrtle Beach was a good market and that there was no real representation for Apple in the area. "That's what brought us here, a 'hey why don't you check this market out,'" Strater says, "so the owner looked at four different locations in the area and Market Common fit the profile of CityMac and where we want to go as a company."

Hatton Gravely the Marketing Manager at The Market Common popped by after seeing our teaser photo that I
post on our Facebook
to let us know how excited they are having CityMac at Market Common, "It'll be a great addition to the community and to the shopping center. We think it'll be a really great draw."

Strater told me that CityMac is still seeking employees for both the sales and tech side of operations (those who want to be a tech for them do have to be Apple Certified). Strater says they are at about 80% of being fully staffed.

We know your biggest question right now is, "Will they have the new "15-inch Retina-Display MacBook Pro!?" and all we know and can say is you'll have to wait for that answer and stop in to CityMac when they open at 10:30 a.m.
