On Wednesday, June 15th, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers presented a study to the Patriots Point Development Authority Board with the aim to save the USS Yorktown.

The concept study took a year and $274,000 to complete and provides cost estimates and designs for three possible cofferdams that could help to rescue the Yorktown from the mud it's buried in.

The hope is that a cofferdam would give a type of dry dock environment, saving up to $100 million that would be needed to relocate the historical landmark for repairs. The three cofferdam possibilities would cost between $402,000 and $20.8 million and are all being considered and looked into further.

The project and funding options will be discussed further at the board's July meeting.
