Salaried employees
Labor laws are trickier when it comes to salaried employees, she said. Implementing repeated mandatory furloughs could jeopardize the exempt status of salaried employees and therefore require that they be paid overtime.

That’s particularly true if, by means of a furlough, an employee’s salary dips below $455 per week, the minimum amount of money that salaried employees must be paid, Hightower said.
