Tourism plans shaken as Patriots Point announces layoffs

Both the town of Mount Pleasant and its tourism mainstay at Patriots Point (home to aircraft carrier the USS Yorktown) are looking to push tourism up -- in the case of Patriots Point they want their attendance numbers to rise from 230,000 a year to 400,000 in just five years.

But all that positive thinking has just been rocked a little as word has just come that 11 full-time staffers at Patriots Point have been laid off, and the wages cut for part-time staff.

The Charleston Regional Business Journal is likely your best bet for all three points of information: Mount Pleasant plans, Patriots Point plans, and layoffs.

Oh, and more bad news on the unemployment front as South Carolina's latest unemployment numbers have just come out. Watch for the story here.
