Yet another sign of fall - parking meter removal

Bob Gelman

Update October 2, 2012: It's that time of year again...

The parking meters in downtown Myrtle Beach are gone until March 1, 2013, we can all enjoy the beaches again for free and virtually tourist-free the way the Founding Fathers intended.

But not so fast Surfside, you'll have to keep paying to park until the end on this month.

First Report September 30th, 2011: Kids are back in school, football is in full swing, traffic on 501 has lightened up (a little), and the City of Myrtle Beach parking meters will start to disappear this weekend.

The meters will likely still be there today as the City of Myrtle Beach starts to pull them. They won't return again until March 1st next year.

Any local worth their salt knows that now is the time to get out and enjoy the Grand Strand amenities. If you haven't had a chance to walk the new boardwalk or check out the SkyWheel, this upcoming week is your chance to do it while the weather is warm.
