Louie’s Kids Helps Lowcountry Families Reach the Finish Line
34 families from inaugural Meet Under the Bridge to Get Over It participate in Bridge Run
CHARLESTON, S.C. (April 1, 2015) – The 38th Annual Cooper River Bridge Run on March 28th, 2015 marked the culmination of a 10-week training program for 34 Lowcountry families who participated in Meet Under the Bridge to Get Over It. The program, which began in January, is the latest initiative launched by Louie’s Kids, a national nonprofit helping to treat childhood obesity and promote a healthier more productive lifestyle.
More than 74 participants from the program took part in this year’s Bridge Run. The 10-week long program was supported by volunteers and local businesses, including: Pro Performance Athletics, SOL Mt. Pleasant, Half Moon Outfitters, 2 Oceans Promotions and TrySports.
“Meet Under the Bridge to Get Over It was a record-breaking program for us, both in terms of participants and volunteers,” said Louis Yuhasz, Founder and CEO of Louie’s Kids. “It was great to see families come out and work toward a fitness goal together. The success of the program further supports our family based approach to health as being a family issue, and does not fall on one individual - it begins and ends at home”
Meet Under the Bridge to Get Over It is the first of four similar programs to be put on by Louie’s Kids this year. All of the organization’s initiatives focus on a family-based approach to health and wellness, supplementing traditional training methods with clinical counseling and behavioral therapy.
