Verizon Wireless' Joyel Crawford recently presented a $5,000 gift to Crisis Ministries, to provide a new stove for its Family Center.

A corporate commitment to ending Domestic Violence (DV) prompted the Verizon Wireless Call Center to help Crisis Ministries purchase a new commercial stove for its Family Center.

The shelter reports that approximately 85% of families at Crisis Ministries are escaping abusive situations. For many, a stressful time is made more so when all of the family’s meals must be taken in the community soup kitchen, which serves hundreds of individuals daily. Now, with support from Verizon Wireless’ Hopeline program, the shelter’s dedicated Family Center will secure a new commercial stove, ensuring families a peaceful, and more private place in which to come together each day.

Verizon Wireless’ Hopeline program has collected more than 8 million used phones nationwide. These are repaired for use by DV victims, or sold, yielding funds for Hopeline to donate. To date, more than $10 million in cash grants have been distributed to DV agencies nationwide. Since its founding 2001, Hopeline has also distributed more than 106,000 phones loaded with 319 million minutes of free wireless service for use by DV victims.
