While other cities have organizations that encourage its residents to get off their butt and become more active, there is no such entity here in Myrtle Beach. In light of that, TheDigitel Myrtle Beach aims at least to highlight some events that you should know about. Once such event is the 2012 Bike-To-Work Week, part of the National Bike Month.

Part of the national Bike-To-Work month, Bike-To-Work week has a few planned community events to get you out there and peddle around. One such event, hosted by the Waccamaw Trail Blazers, is the 2012 Ride of Silence. In memory of those who have lost their lives while cycling, the 2012 Ride of Silence will start at the YMCA off of 62nd Ave at 5PM, head down to the boulevard to Sea Captains House and arrive around 5:40. From there the bike ride will continue down the boulevard all the way down down south crossing over to War Bird Park around 6:15. Thirty minute loop around Market Common and then head back. The Waccamaw Trail Blazers encourage all to come out and participate. According to the group you can join in the ride at any point. To find out more info on the ride you can check out their Facebook event page here

Another event going on this week is the official Bike-To-Work day happening May 18. On this day Grand Strand residents are encouraged to hang up their car keys and strap on their bike helmet. The day's goal is to show how easy it is to commute to work as well as draw attention to city officials showing an ever growing community of cyclists.

Will you be getting out and riding your bike this week or do you think that our areas infrastructure doesn't support a safe cycling environment?
