Swap your gas mower for an electric model at the Lawn Mower Exchange

As part of the Charleston County Earth Day Festival, the 2013 Tri-County Lawn Mower Exchange event will be held on Saturday, April 20, at North Charleston's Riverfront Park.

Residents of Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties are encouraged to bring in their old gas-powered mowers between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.  The old gas mowers and gas-power yard tools can be traded in for vouchers on new cordless or corded electric mowers and air friendly yard tools available at discounted, event-only prices. Gas and oil will be removed from the used mowers and all the metal parts will be recycled. The event is RAIN or SHINE!

Volunteers are needed to help at the April 20th Lawn Mower Exchange.

Volunteer Shifts: 2 shifts of ~20 people each shift (1st shift from 8:30 am-11:30 am; 2nd shift from 11:00 am-2:00 pm). We can be somewhat flexible with times. Please discuss with Richelle prior to signing up; Richelle Tolton -- Community Liaison -- DHEC -- toltonrd@dhec.sc.gov -- (843)953-0150.

Types of Volunteering: Assist with parking, survey collection, unloading used lawn mowers or power yard tools from vehicles, removing oil/gas from used lawn mowers, loading new lawn mowers into vehicles, or various other assistance needed at the event.

Please come prepared to get a bit dirty!

What you get: t-shirt, food, and the chance to help protect the Lowcountry!
