Sustain Coastal keeps it green

Sustain Coastal and Keep Horry County Beautiful hosted a clean-up of the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday. Members of TheDigitel staff showed up to volunteer their time and services to give back to the community that supports them.

During the clean-up of Cox Ferry Lake Landing area (also known as the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge) all sorts of substances were collected, recycled, and reinvested - from plastic and aluminum cans to scrap metal and plastic. Even a hot tub was collected.

Members of the local mountain bike advocacy group the Waccamaw Trail Blazers were also on hand to help out. The area serves as a trail passage for the group and members stated this was a way of giving back.

Over 47 bags of recyclables, 30 bags trash, and two large Waste Management construction bins were collected. The Cox Ferry Lake Landing area has been used as an illegal dumping site for many years. Now under the management of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge hopes to bring more Horry County residents out to enjoy the area.
