Party Kingdom: Weird name, weird place, awesome pho

Party Kingdom: By the name you think their food wouldn't be too great, even by the look of the place you wouldn't think it would be too great.

It's not that it's dirty, but rather just very kid oriented with its bins of candies and bright colors.

But it's the hidden nature of the spot that makes a good bowl of their pho even better.

And it's not just me that likes it. The Charleston City Paper does, and now even a timid Holly Herrick has finally given it a thumbs up, in part:

I wasn't sure what the place was all about. It's brimming with Webkinz and jelly beans and has whole sections devoted to stuffed animals and pinball machines. From outside, it was almost impossible to tell that, behind the candy counter, there is a small window that opens into a big-flavored world of authentic Vietnamese cooking prepared by Vietnamese natives.

Go read her brief review, and if you're one of the many people I know that are still on the fence about trying this spot, just go already.

Party Kingdom is at 1739 Maybank Highway on James Island. Sunday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Firday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (843) 795-5701
