New dates, new event schedule for Taste of Charleston 2012

It's official: September 28 -30, 2012 will mark the 32nd annual Taste of Charleston event.

The three-day culinary celebration of Lowcountry cuisine is being hosted once again by the Charleston Restaurant Association partnered with Southern Living Magazine. For more than 20 years, this charity fund-raising event has been named one of the “Top 20 events in the Southeast” by Southeastern Tourism Society. More than 10,000 guests are expected and there will be something for all ages to enjoy. The four events of the weekend include:

Taste: Iron Chef Competition, presented by US Foods, will be held Friday, September 28, at the Culinary Institute of Charleston’s Palmer Campus in downtown Charleston and will showcase some of the best local chefs in a heated head-to-head battle in the Institute’s state-of-the-art amphitheater kitchen.

NEW EVENT: Sweet and Southern on Shem Creek, presented by Restaurant Solutions, INC will be held Saturday evening, September 29, at the Lighthouse on Shem Creek. This event will be a singer/songwriter showcase that will feature Nashville artists. Guests will also enjoy boat cruises as well as some delicious Southern fare from Charleston caterers.

NEW EVENT: Taste: Dine Around, presented by SYSCO, will be held in the evening on both Friday, September 28 and Saturday, September 29 at a variety of participating restaurants. The Dine Around will include a prix fix menu and special beer pairing menu.

Taste of Charleston (Main Event) will be held on Sunday, September 30 at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant. The event will showcase a sampling of local cuisine from more than 50 of Charleston’s finest restaurants as well as live music, waiter’s wine race, children’s area and Southern Living exhibition area. Event sponsors include: Town of Mount Pleasant, Limehouse Produce, Blue Moon and Biltmore Wines.
