Lowcountry Local First, Wine + Food Fest look to give one bright local foodie $3,000

Lowcountry Local First in conjunction with the BB&T Food and Wine Festival have announced a call for entries for a "Local Food Innovator Award."

Aiming to "recognize the achievements of a local visionary in the food community whose professional efforts are making the Lowcountry a better place to live, work, and eat," the winner of the award receive $3,000 to put towards their ideas.

The winner will be selected by a committee of some of the areas top chefs, all being recipients of the 2010 Ultimate Critics Award. The panel includes Jeremiah Bacon, Sean Brock, Craig Deihl, Mike Lata, Frank Lee, and Michelle Weaver.

The top three finalists will appear with samples of their food at the Lowcountry Local Food Tent at the BB&T Wine and Food Festival on March 3rd - 6th, and the winner will be announced at the Opening Ceremonies for the festival on Friday, March 4th.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must live and work in the Tri-County area, and must use or produce a majority of locally-sourced ingredients, products, or services. The application deadline is Tuesday, February 1st. Samples, photos, or portfolios of products are highly encouraged, and may be requested for finalists if selected.
