Peg Eastman at the Charleston Mercury has done a piece on the destructive hurricane of 1911 that claimed the lives of 17 people.

The piece takes a look back at Charleston culture in the early part of the century and the old photographs set the tone. As hurricane season is upon us, it is a reminder of the sheer power of mother nature.

Head to the Moultrie News for the article and photos.
