Just a day after Charleston was ranked as the best vacation destination in the world, South Carolina residents have been named the sixth happiest people in the United States.

How'd they come up with that ranking you ask? The happiness ratings were based on a survey of 1.3 million people across the country by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I guess the Palmetto State license plates don't lie, this truly is a land of smiling faces and beautiful places.

The Post and Courier's got the story as well as the entire state-by-state happiness list.
