A 64-foot, steel-hulled sailboat has made it through the treacherous Northwest Passage and is docked here in Charleston for a few days before heading south to round deadly Cape Horn in South America.

The Ocean Watch and her highly skilled crew are collecting data on ocean conditions and working to produce educational programs on ocean health. So far, the team has been shocked by the dramatic effects of climate change on ocean ice and wildlife.

The Post and Courier has a a great piece on the ship and her crew that is well worth the read.

The Ocean Watch can be viewed at the Charleston Maritime Center on Thursday afternoon.
