If you thought Black Friday lines were crazy, wait until you hear about the line for the $50 Piggly Wiggly gift cards: The line for the 7:30 a.m. Monday giveaway started at 2 p.m. the day before and stretched three blocks.

In all 1,000 of the cards for the grocery store were given away at the Star Gospel Mission on downtown Charleston's East Side.

And the apparent record demand for the annual giveaway going on for some dozen years is being seen as a sign of the still struggling economy.
