Karl Troy of North Charleston is the crew chief of a four-seater 750-pound prototype "Edison2" car that gets 101.4 miles to the gallon while driving in real-world conditions and meeting safety standards.

If they can pass the last few tests, the team could well claim a $5 million purse from the Progressive Automotive XPRIZE.

Live 5 News caught up with Troy and has a write-up and video interview with him about the car and the contest; watch it here.

You can follow along with the car's progress over here.
