Press Release

North Strand Helping Hand (NSHH) is pleased to announce the second annual “Great Costume Exchange.”  The Great Costume Exchange festivities will take place on Saturday, October 22nd at NSHH on Long Bay Road in Longs from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Designed to help families who are on a tight budget, the event is open to children in need of a gently used costume.  In addition to costumes, many other children’s activities will be offered including face painting, a free hot dog lunch, and other games and crafts.

More than 60 children selected costumes last year, and organizers are looking for even more this year .

“When you are on a tight budget, it is hard to find extra money for costumes for your kids,” said Margaret Owens, executive director of North Strand Helping Hand.

Gently used costume donations are being accepted until Friday at North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, Little River Chamber of Commerce, North Myrtle Beach Primary School, Smoke Free Horry at the Myrtle Beach Mall and NSHH.

“Many people have costumes that have only been worn once, and we are happy to accept them and give them to children who need them,” said Owens.

The event is limited to one costume per child, and the child must be present in order to receive a costume.  Children must live in the NSHH service area which includes Longs, Little River, North Myrtle Beach and Loris.  The Great Costume Exchange is being sponsored by Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Canteen, Century 21 Thomas, Printing by Designs, Lunar Mini Golf, Easy 105.9 Radio, and Spirit Halloween.
