Highrollers open the '12 season with 'Militia of Love' (update: All-Stars, Brusin' Betties take home wins)

First reporting: The roughest and toughest girls in town - the Lowcountry Highrollers - are hosting the Charlotte Roller Girls for their 2012 season-opener bout, Militia of Love.

On February 18th, the Highrollers will host the Charlotte Roller Girls at The Citadel's McAlister Field House. Doors open at 4 p.m., and the Highrollers Bruisin’ Betties kick off the action against the Charlotte B-Dazzlers at 4:30 p.m. The teams’ all-star players, both vying for national rankings, hit the track at 6 p.m.

There will be beer, music and great raffle prizes, plus fun for the kids all day and a halftime show from Homespun Hoops. Keep partying after the final whistle at Tin Roof, located at 1117 Magnolia Road in West Ashley.

Bout admission is $10 in advance and $14 at the door. Children 10 and younger get in free. A portion of proceeds will benefit We Are Family, a local nonprofit group that supports local gay, bisexual and transgender youth and their families and friends.

Update February 20: A very lively crowd came out on Saturday night to cheer on the Lowcountry Highrollers in their first win of the season. The final score was Highrollers All-Stars 153, Charlotte Roller Girls 81.

In addition, the Bruisin' Betties took the first bout with a score of 144 to the Charlotte B'Dazzlers' 96.
