The No. 1 ranked Citadel Bulldogs survived Thursday's match-up against Elon, but the College of Charleston Cougars were knocked out by Western Carolina in a wild and wooly 7-6, 12 inning game.

The Citadel rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the top of the ninth and then scored three in the top of the tenth to win a heated affair over Elon, 6-3, in 10 innings.

The win bumps the Bulldogs' record to 40-20 on the season, making it the second 40 win season for coach Fred Jordan. The Citadel gets Friday off and will face Friday's winner of the Elon vs. Samford elimination game on Saturday at 1 p.m.

An error in the bottom of the 12th inning and a total of 15 stranded runners on base throughout the game sealed the fate for the College of Charleston as the Catamounts took yesterday's game 7-6.

College of Charleston will play Appalachian State today at The Joe at 3 p.m.
