Memorial for Charleston Nine

The city is planning a memorial to mark the two-year anniversary of the fatal Sofa Superstore fire at the West Ashley site and will be open for people to pay their respects on June 18.

Read more stories on this subject in our Sofa Super Store fire topic page.Firefighters and families of the victims will attend a private session between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. The public will be allowed on the site from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, The Charleston City Paper writes that fire departments across the nation are inspecting buildings for fire safety this week as their own way of remembering the Charleston Nine.
