Update 2/26/2011: The 2nd Annual Krispy Kreme Donut Run will take place this year on March 24 at Waterbridge in Carolina Forest.

In this event, you run half the course before downing a dozen Krispy Kremes and try to complete the course without incident. The team division allows up to 4 people to share the dozen and the starter division has no donut requirement but you're welcome to try.

Online registration is here. This is a timed but casual event as the course is not certified . This year the beneficiary will be the Toddville FWB Church.

You can see our 2011 coverage below.

Update 4/24/2011: The Sun News has a recap of the days events over here.

First report: Sure, you can eat a dozen Krispy Kremes. You may even be able to run 3 miles. But can you do them both within an hour? You can see for yourself all while benefitting Relay For Life.

On Saturday, April 23rd, the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Run will take place in the Waterbridge community of Carolina Forest. Those registered as “challengers” must eat their doughnuts and complete the run in less than one hour. Those registered as a team split the 12 doughnuts. Casual joggers/walkers can attempt to complete the entire race, eating as many doughnuts as they wish. The individual and the complete team that returns to the line first will win.

These doughnut runs have caught on since the first one started as a dare on the N.C. State campus. The original event has grown exponentially each year and others cities like Charleston have held similar events.
